Fear drives the human race.
Fear does not drive nature.
Only in humankind does one witness every action and
motivation influenced by one catalyst.
How can I say this?
You say, animals and plants experience fear. Yes, but
their lives, their every action and motivation, are not
dictated by fear. They live moment by moment seeking
life-sustenance as they need, taking pleasure when there
are no needs to satisfy.
Spend your life watching nature. Animals, when not
hungry, thirsty, uncomfortable or in danger, play, bathe
(in sunshine, water, mud...), seek companionship, satisfy
some curiosity....
Does this sound familiar? Like being human?
(Perhaps it is we who
are as they when our fear-based responses subside.)
But animals live from moment to moment.
Humans live in fear of future pain.
That is the difference.
It is Zen to live in the moment...to live IN TAO DANCING,
dancing in and with it.
