The
original Warner Brothers' release of this album
was the second time I had been exposed to Frank
Zappa, and consequently, In
New York has always
remained my all-time favorite Zappa. I
can recall my friend Mike
White and myself
reciting the "devil" routine from Titties
& Beer in social studies
class back in high school, our classmates looking
on and wondering what the fuck we were up to NOW.
I would take Frank's parts and Mike
would be the devil. We had our own "cheesy
choreography", but we lacked the rubber
mask. [Mike
was one of the best drummers I've ever had the
privilege of playing with. He's, since, gone on
to become a physicist or something at Hanford,
and we've lost touch. Hey Mike! If you're out
there, drop
me a line.]
This
album is just fantastic! The addition of extra
tracks on the CD release makes it even better.
Terry's
drumming and vocals, Ray's vocals, Don Pardo's
sophisticated narrations and the horn section
from the Saturday Night live band filling out the
arrangements make for quite the listening
experience.
You
gotta have this one!
