TOPIC: Selling Your Art

zentao.com trademark logoIt always amazes me how utterly short-sighted people can be. There must be tons of art venues around the Internet, filled with anywhere from a handful to thousands of artists all looking to make their name by selling online. It reminds me of the wannabe writers who are forever buying books on how to write from Writers Digest Books, but never really grasping that they are the consumers. The same is true of the online art venues. You pay them X amount for space, and they will sell your work and provide you with gallery space. Okay. Good. But what are you really doing to promote yourself? Just depending on them? They are NOT there to do you any favors. Really. They are there to do themselves a favor -- make money. If you make them money, great. But they aren't going out of their way to promote little ol' you. What you have to do is to turn the tables for yourself. You use their services, but you promote you, not them. Got it? Good. Okay. Get busy, now.
